Orioles keep Chris Dickerson in organization; outfielder outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk

Outfielder Chris Dickerson will remain in the Orioles organization as the club announced it has outrighted him to Triple-A Norfolk.

Dickerson cleared waivers Sunday afternoon and could have refused the assignment to Norfolk.

But the Orioles wanted to keep Dickerson -- who plays all three outfield positions -- for his versatility. And Dickerson knows that he can be back in the majors quickly, considering the Orioles make so many roster moves.

The Orioles had previously been trying to deal Dickerson, who was designated for assignment July 19.

Dickerson recorded a .245/.274/.412 line with four homers and 13 RBIs in 46 games, primarily as a left-handed designated hitter. But once the club decided to purchase the contract of Cuban outfielder Henry Urrutia, Dickerson became expendable.
