SARASOTA, FLA. — As the Orioles begin getting at-bats for catcher Matt Wieters this spring, he will lead off in today's intrasquad game for the home team.
The intrasquad game, which will be this spring's first competitive game, will take place at 1 p.m. on the Ed Smith Stadium main field. The game is scheduled for six or seven innings. It is closed to the public.
Wieters, who isn't scheduled to throw at 100 percent in a game until March 17, is expected to catch two innings today.
Left-handers Zach Britton and T.J. McFarland will start for the "home" and "away" teams on the scoreboard, respectively. They are expected to throw one inning each.
The home team includes most starters. Everth Cabrera will start at shortstop for the "away" team.
