Orioles' Adam Jones gets a DH day; Nate McLouth to start in center field

Orioles manager Buck Showalter is continuing to give some of his key players days off from playing in the field.

Tonight, it is Adam Jones, who will be the Orioles' designated hitter against the Astros. Nate McLouth will make his first start of the season in center field, and L.J. Hoes will start in left field.

On Tuesday, Showalter placed first baseman Chris Davis at designated hitter and gave Ryan Flaherty a start at first. On Sunday, catcher Matt Wieters was the DH and Showalter gave backup Taylor Teagarden the start behind the plate.

Jones, who has played every game and made 60 straight starts in center, will be making his first start at DH since May 23, when he was the team's designated hitter for three straight games while nursing a sore groin. He is 4-for-16 in four games at the DH spot this season.

Showalter said Tuesday that he's trying to give some of his key players – particularly the ones who played in the All-Star Game and didn't receive the benefit of the break – days off defensively.

Here is the Orioles lineup:

Manny Machado 3B
Nick Markakis RF
Adam Jones DH
Chris Davis 1B
Matt Wieters C
J.J. Hardy SS
