Best move: Bringing up Mychal Givens from Double-A Bowie
Right-handed reliever Mychal Givens' dominance at Double-A early this season was hard to overlook, and the Orioles gave him his first call-up to the majors in June. The shortstop-turned-reliever made one appearance, pitching a perfect inning against the Boston Red Sox on June 23. The 25-year-old former second-round draft pick was brought back up when the Orioles dealt Tommy Hunter and cut Bud Norris loose on July 31. He made all but one of his remaining appearances in the majors, using his unorthodox delivery to become a strikeout machine, pitching his way into a key late-inning role. Givens should be a crucial part of the Orioles bullpen going forward.
