NEW YORK — Orioles catcher Matt Wieters had X-rays taken on his right foot following the team's 2-1 loss to the New York Yankees on Monday night.

The results of the tests weren't known late Monday, but Wieters – who was hit by a pitch in the first inning by Yankees starter Ivan Nova – played the entire game before he was taken on a golf cart to get the X-ray done inside Yankee Stadium minutes after the end of the game.

Wieters was hit by a 94-mph fastball with two outs in the inning, loading the bases against Nova. The Orioles weren't able to score when Pedro Alvarez popped up to third in foul ground to end the frame.

"It was pretty sore," manager Buck Showalter said. "There wasn't much we could do, but Matt that last at-bat, we probably would have run for him if he was on base."

The Orioles played with just two bench players Monday because first baseman Chris Davis was dealing with a stomach virus and was told to remain in his hotel room. That left only outfielder Joey Rickard and catcher Caleb Joseph on the bench.

"Chris stayed at the hotel," Showalter said. "I wasn't going to broadcast that before the game."

Wieters, who played in his fourth career All-Star Game last week, is hitting .250 with nine homers and 38 RBIs this season. He was 0-for-3 on Monday, but threw out Yankees first baseman Rob Refsnyder attempting to steal second base at a potentially pivotal moment in the seventh inning.
