Mark Reynolds agrees to a deal with New York Yankees

Reynolds was batting just .215 with 15 homers and 48 RBIs in 99 games for the Indians. He signed a one-year, $6 million deal with Cleveland in the offseason after spending two years in Baltimore.

Buck Showalter said that

when he was released, but the Orioles manager has repeatedly said that he likes his current team and

as a right-handed designated hitter. (Valencia is currently with Triple-A Norfolk.)

Reynolds was a popular player here, but he didn't seem like an ideal fit for this year's Orioles, who are solidified at first and third base and don't particularly like to clog their DH spot with one player.

Reynolds' power from the right side could be of value to the Yankees, though. They currently rank second-to-last in the majors in slugging percentage.

Reynolds hit seven of his 23 homers last season against New York and has a career .264/.349/.639 batting line at Yankee Stadium.

He batted .221 with 23 homers and 69 RBIs in 135 games with the Orioles last year after a 2011 season in which he hit a team-leading 37 homers in 155 games.

The Orioles held an $11 million option on Reynolds for 2013 that the club declined in the offseason, preferring instead to buy it out for $500,000.
