It turns out Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco's rejection of a Pro Bowl invitation due to the impending birth of his third child was a bit more imminent than anyone realized.
The Ravens announced on an unrelated conference call Wednesday that Flacco and his wife Dana's third son, Francis Michael, was born Tuesday night, weighing nine pounds, seven ounces.
"They called about the Pro Bowl and he had to decide, Dana or the Pro Bowl," coach John Harbaugh said on the call. "We know that he made the right choice."
Flacco was an alternate to the Pro Bowl, but he declined an invitation after several initially selected quarterbacks, including the Denver Broncos' Peyton Manning and the Green Bay Packers' Aaron Rodgers backed out.
The timing of the potential birth raised some questions about how it could impact a potential Super Bowl run, though it somewhat fortuitously fell during what would have been the bye week. It probably wouldn't have impacted Flacco's schedule, though.
His first son, 2-year-old Stephen, was born while the team was in minicamp in 2012. His second son, Daniel, was born an hour before the 2013 home opener against the Cleveland Browns.
