How do you marry your Superhero Night promotion with the actual, real-live super hero who used to don your jersey? The Frederick Keys' answer is easy: "Iron Manny."
To commemorate Orioles' third baseman Manny Machado's 162-game season last year -- the only player to earn that distinction in all of baseball -- the Keys have dressed Machado up in an Iron Man costume as a giveaway bobblehead on Saturday, May 21.
The first 1,000 fans that night will get the custom bobblehead, one of several entertaining ideas conjured up this offseason by the staff out at the Orioles High-A affiliate.
Other notable giveaways include Shooter McGavin bobbleheads for the first 1,000 fans on Saturday, June 18, for a "Happy Gilmore Night" promotion that coincides with the U.S. Open. McGavin, of course, was the antagonist to Adam Sandler's Gilmore in the iconic film. Actor Christopher McDonald, who played McGavin, will be in attendance.
Other celebrity appearances include WWE Hall of Fame member Mick Foley on July 1, Troy Landry of the History Channel's "Swamp People" on July 8, and actor Bradley Whitford for the Sept. 2 West Wing Night promotion.
The full list of promotions can be found on the team website, and includes minor league staples like the Cowboy Monkey Rodeo (July 23), Star Wars Night (April 30), and several children's promotions.
The Keys will also try to top last year's Rugrats jersey on the June 17 "Nickelodeon Night" with custom "Hey Arnold" jerseys
And if you want to buy a season ticket plan, all planholders will get a double-bobblehead with Machado and Jonathan Schoop. Visit FrederickKeys.com for more information.
