Gausman throws three strong innings; Wieters catches six innings in Orioles B game vs. Pirates

SARASOTA, Fla. – Orioles right-hander Kevin Gausman pitched three strong innings on Sunday morning in the Orioles' B game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Ed Smith Stadium, a game that ended in a 2-2 tie after seven innings.

Former Orioles infielder Steve Lombardozzi had two of the Pirates' three hits off Gausman, who struck out two and walked one in his longest outing of spring training.

After allowing a leadoff single to Lombardozzi to open the game, Gausman retired eight straight Pirates hitters, but got into trouble with two outs in a 30-pitch first inning.

Lombardozzi hit a two-out single, following by an RBI double by catcher Francisco Cervelli to score the Pirates' run off Gausman, whose fastball sat at 94-95.

In three spring training outings, Gausman has allowed one run on six hits over six innings with four strikeouts and two walks.

Catcher Matt Wieters was 1-for-3 with an infield single. He also caught six innings – marking the first time he's caught back-to-back days. He's slated to be cleared to throw in Grapefruit League games on Tuesday.

Closer Zach Britton worked two scoreless innings (he recorded just five outs) for his first multiple-inning stint of spring training.

Catcher Steve Clevenger, starting at third base for the first time since April 12, 2013, singled and scored a run on a wild pitch. Catcher J.P. Arencibia, also starting out of position at first base, singled and was driven on a Glynn Davis single. Yard
