The Blue Jays clinched their playoff spot with the Detroit Tigers' loss to the Atlanta Braves earlier Sunday, then beat the Boston Red Sox, 2-1, to secure home-field advantage. Toronto is in the postseason for the second straight season after a 21-year drought.

The Orioles, who defeated the New York Yankees in their regular-season finale Sunday, won the most recent series against Toronto but lost 10 of 19 meetings overall this season. They were outscored 97-81.
