Former Orioles outfielder Danny Clyburn was shot and killed early this morning in his home town of Lancaster, S.C., according to a report in the Rock Hill (S.C.) Herald.
According to police reports, Clyburn, who played sparingly for the Orioles in 1997 and 1998, was seen by witnesses arguing with a man shortly before he was shot. He was found dead in the front yard of a home at 2 a.m.
Derrick Lamont Mcilwain, 36, has been arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Clyburn hit .250 in 28 career at bats with the Orioles. He also spent one season with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. His best days were with the Orioles' Triple-A team in Rochester, where he hit .300 with 20 homers and 76 RBIs for the Red Wings' 1997 Governor's Cup champion team.
