5 – Outfielder Mark Trumbo has just seven hits off left-handed pitching in 38 at-bats, but five are home runs. A sixth was a double, meaning he just has one single off left-handed pitching this season. Overall, he’s batting .184/.225/.605 against lefties, which gives him the second-highest OPS against them among Orioles regulars. He’s one of five players, including former Orioles Nelson Cruz and Steve Pearce, with five home runs off lefties this season. On his career, Trumbo has a home run every 16.4 plate appearances, but has a career .263 average off left-handers, so both are probably going to balance out before long. (Kenneth K. Without a weekly matchup to peg these five stats to the way I did with the Ravens games, the goal with picking out five stats for the Orioles has been to have a theme. This week's theme is basically everything I've wondered about and thought, "Isn't that weird?"
Just how often do opponents score on Orioles starters in the first inning? Does Joey Rickard really only hit late in games? Is Vance Worley the best reliever the Orioles have? These and more questions answered in this week's edition of five Orioles stats.
