SPOTSYLVANIA, VA. — The Hagerstown Suns and Spotsylvania County have been given more time to agree on a deal that would bring the minor league baseball team to Virginia.
The Free Lance-Star reports that Minor League Baseball has given South Atlantic League president Eric Krupa and Suns owner Bruce Quinn permission to continue talks with the county until July 31. The previous deadline was May 31.
The newspaper says Krupa announced the deadline extension in a letter to Spotsylvania Supervisors chairman Chris Yakabouski.
Supervisors proposed building a $33 million baseball stadium in late April. Under the proposal, the Suns would pay $8 million toward the construction cost.
The Class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals previously had planned to move to Fredericksburg. Financing for a new stadium there fell through last fall.
