SARASOTA, FLA. — The Orioles reduced their spring training camp to 37 players Sunday by sending out three, including one of the organization's top position players, Dariel Alvarez.
Alvarez, the 26-year old Cuban outfielder who impressed this spring, is expected to play almost every day at Triple-A Norfolk, where he ended 2014. Alvarez hit .343 in with two home runs in 35 Grapefruit League at-bats. He also showed off his tremendous throwing arm, which is considered the best among outfielders in the organization.
The Orioles also reassigned to minor league camp right-handed pitcher Chaz Roe, and infielder Chris Parmelee.
Roe posted a 5.91 ERA in seven games. Parmelee batted .241 in 29 at-bats. He hit his lone homer of the spring Sunday.
