Chris Dickerson placed on outright waivers

Outfielder Chris Dickerson, who was designated for assignment last Friday when Henry Urrutia and Danny Valencia joined the Orioles, has been placed on outright waivers, according to an industry source.

The Orioles had been trying to deal Dickerson, but apparently could not find a deal involving the 31-year-old.

If he is not claimed on waivers – teams only have to pay a $20,000 claiming fee, while picking up his remaining salary and placing him on the 25-man roster – then he will be outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk.

Because of his service time, however, Dickerson can decline the assignment and become a free agent if he chooses.

The Orioles signed Dickerson to a minor-league deal this winter and he played in 46 games with the Orioles, batting .245 with a .274 on-base percentage and a .412 slugging. He hit four homers –including two in one game against his old club, the New York Yankees – and drove in 13 runs.
