Chris Davis ties Brady Anderson's Orioles single-season HR record with 50th homer of the season

TORONTO -- Orioles first baseman Chris Davis tied Brady Anderson for the franchise home run record with his eighth-inning solo blast Friday night against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.

The milestone homer broke a second-place tie with Hall of Famer Frank Robinson, who hit 49 in his American League Triple Crown year in 1966.

Davis hit No. 50 – off Blue Jays pitcher Steve Delabar – to left center field on a 2-2 changeup, giving the Orioles a 4-3 lead in a game they'd win 5-3.

Davis reached 50 in 146 games this season; Anderson appeared in 149 games when he 50 in 1996. Anderson's 50th also came in this stadium.

In the past 10 years, only six other big leaguers have reached 50 homers in a season: Andruw Jones, 51 (2005), Ryan Howard, 58 (2006), David Ortiz, 54 (2006), Alex Rodriguez, 54 (2007), Prince Fielder, 50 (2007), and Jose Bautista, 54 (2010).

Davis leads the majors in home runs. Detroit's Miguel Cabrera, last year's AL MVP, is second with 43.

Davis also became the third player in history to record 50 homers and 40 doubles, joining Babe Ruth (1921) and Albert Belle (1995)

He hit his 40th double of the season in the second inning of Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Yankees, making him the first Orioles player to hit at least 40 doubles and 40 homers in a season.
