Dylan Bundy, the Orioles' top pitching prospect, will not make his scheduled start Tuesday at Double-A Bowie because he is dealing with right shoulder soreness, according to manager Buck Showalter.
The decision is considered precautionary; the Orioles have been very careful with the 22-year-old right-hander, who had right elbow surgery in June 2013.
The club has limited his innings this year, not allowing him to go beyond four in any start. He is 0-3 with a 3.68 ERA in eight outings, in which he has allowed 21 hits and five walks and has struck out 25 batters in 22 innings.
Although it might not be a major issue physically, his scratch is a bit of a bummer for minor league baseball fans. Bundy was supposed to pitch to Orioles All-Star catcher Matt Wieters, who is beginning a rehab assignment at Bowie on Tuesday.
