Cornerback Champ Bailey retiring from NFL, agent says

"Champ has some outstanding opportunities that he's going to pursue," Reale said in a telephone interview. "He's heard from several teams, I'm not going to say who, but this is the way that Champ has decided to go. He's had a great career."

Bailey is regarded as a likely future Hall of Fame selection.

Bailey, 36, was cut by the New Orleans Saints after he struggled with injuries. Since being released, Bailey also worked out for the Detroit Lions, but he wasn't offered a contract.

Questions about Bailey's health and effectiveness have been raised around the NFL in recent months. The former University of Georgia star had a legendary career, though.

Bailey recorded 983 career tackles, 52 interceptions, 235 pass deflections, nine forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. He was the leader in interceptions among active cornerbacks.
