After making some moves Monday, Orioles to add more players Tuesday

The Baltimore Sun

The Orioles made a series of moves Monday, the first day that major league rosters could expand to include all players on a team's 40-man roster. And additional moves will happen Tuesday.

In addition to recalling right-hander Kevin Gausman, who started Monday, the Orioles also brought up right-hander Evan Meek from Norfolk, purchased left-hander Joe Saunders' contract from the Tides and added utility player Kelly Johnson to the active roster.

Gausman started Monday's game against the Minnesota Twins, and he suffered his third straight loss after giving up five runs (four earned) and five hits in a career-high 7 1/3 innings. Meek retired all three batters he faced in a scoreless inning in the loss.

The team is expected to add right-hander Ryan Webb on Tuesday. Showalter said Webb had been held back with a sore shoulder the past few days, but he threw a bullpen session at short-season Single-A Aberdeen on Monday. He hasn’t pitched in a game since last Sunday for Norfolk.

The club also will purchase the contract of outfielder Quintin Berry, who hit .285/.382/.367 with 25 stolen bases in 31 attempts in 112 games at Norfolk this season. And catcher Steve Clevenger and McFarland are expected to rejoin the team Tuesday from Aberdeen after the IronBirds’ season also ended Monday.
