In November, Class of 2015 shooting guard Kobe Eubanks reopened his recruitment. His phone hasn't stopped ringing since.
Eubanks, who originally committed to Baylor as a Class of 2014 prospect before academic issues pushed him into a prep year and led him to decommit, has heard from Maryland, Louisville, Michigan, Connecticut, Kansas, Oregon, Georgia, Providence, UCLA, USC and more in less than a month's time. Most of them called him as soon as he announced his decision, and they've continued to be in his ear. But Eubanks is enjoying the process the second time around.
"Very, very, very good," he said when asked how his recruitment has been going. "My phone's been ringing off the hook, but I'm not doing nothing but embracing it and let it motivate me to push harder."
Eubanks has seen his game reach another level since taking a prep year. He went from playing at Our Savior New American (N.Y.) in his senior year, where he said he was primarily a spot-up shooter and had to learn to play tough, to taking more of a lead role this season with Elev8 Prep (Fla.). His improved game was on full display at last weekend's DMVelite Baltimore Holiday Classic, as he led his team to two victories while combining for 42 points and 15 rebounds. He has adjusted to his new teammates remarkably fast and took control of games when needed. He got to the foul line 13 times in the two games, something he wouldn't have been able to do a year ago.
"It's picking up quick, though," he said of his new role. "I added more to my game attacking the basket, not only just shooting. And just getting familiar with my teammates, that's helped a lot. These are great guys, and anybody would want them to play on their team."
