Editor's note: As Penn State free safety Adrian Amos gets ready for the NFL draft, the former Calvert Hall standout will be sharing details about his preparations with Baltimore Sun reporter Aaron Wilson. The 6-foot, 215-pound All-Big Ten Conference honorable-mention selection has been projected to be taken anywhere from the third round to the fifth round by draft analysts. Amos played in the Senior Bowl all-star game and is training for the NFL scouting combine at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. Here's his third entry in the series heading into next week's NFL scouting combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis:
I'm just getting prepared, finishing up my training and working on little things leading into the combine. It's exciting. I've been waiting for this for a long time, ever since I was little. There's definitely a lot of excitement.
The biggest thing is the 40-yard dash. That's a big part of the combine. I've improved on some things. Hopefully, I run something well to my standards at the combine.
I travel to the combine next week. This is a time to train and rest and get my legs under me. I've been doing a lot of cold tub and hot tub. I've been working on my techniques and small things and movements, and I'm going to be prepared to let it all loose once I get there.
With the interviews with teams, I just want to show my knowledge of the game. I have a lot of experience in football from a lot of different coaches and a lot of different schemes. I want to show my personality and I'm looking forward to talking to all of the NFL teams.
I read some of the draft articles and rankings. I don't pay too much attention to it, except using it sometimes for motivation. It's a big difference between what people think may happen and what coaches really think. You don't really know until draft day.
I saw that movie, "Draft Day." It was an interesting movie. It was probably a one-in-a-million type of situation.
I look at teams' situations and depth charts and stuff like that. I watch football all the time. I read online and do my research.
I've been talking to family and friends. I've been getting a lot of support. They just want me to go down there and do well, just do what I do and play football. They're watching and supporting me.
I just want to thank everyone for all the support and keep God in everything. People reach out to me, and I try to message people back as much as I can.
To celebrate after the combine, I would go home and eat my mother's cooking. My favorite meal she makes is fried chicken and barbecue chicken, macaroni and cheese with green beans and corn. It's great.
