Editor's note: As Penn State free safety Adrian Amos gets ready for the NFL draft, the former Calvert Hall standout will be sharing details about his preparations with Baltimore Sun reporter Aaron Wilson. The 6-foot, 218-pound All-Big Ten Conference honorable mention selection has been projected anywhere from the third round to the fifth round by draft analysts. Here's his fourth entry in the series, coming off his participation in last week's NFL scouting combine, where he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.56 seconds and had a 35.5-inch vertical leap, a 10-2 broad jump, a 4.03 in the 20-yard shuttle and an 11.33 in the 60-yard shuttle:

It was a lot of long days, getting everything done from meeting with coaches to 11:30 at night to waking up real early at 4 o'clock, 5 o'clock to urine tests and a whole bunch of other doctor examinations and MRIs. They really examine everything to see what they're going to invest in. I can't complain too much. This is what I asked for.

I didn't get to eat too much of anything as far as going out. IMG brought a lot of food for us to stay on the same diet, Subway, some other stuff they brought for us, eating the right way. I roomed with the safety from Stanford (Jordan Richards). I was the first one to sleep so I didn't have to worry about any snoring.

A lot of teams had already done so many background checks. I don't have any dirt anywhere, so they don't ask me too many character questions. All the coaches said good things about me. They talk about football and ask me board questions, how I read defenses. They show film of me at different positions.

The interviews went pretty smooth. I saw a lot of my former coaches from Penn State on the Texans' staff. It was pretty cool seeing them at a different level. They can tell me from an NFL perspective now.

I had a formal one with the Broncos. I met with the Ravens informally. The Ravens, it was pretty cool. It was the same as every other team. You don't know where you will land, who really likes you. It's just a lot of talking and interviews.

I met [Broncos coach] Gary Kubiak. It was cool seeing [Broncos general manager] John Elway and being on the field with Deion Sanders. I didn't meet Snoop Dogg at the Adidas suite when he was in town.

The laser times in the 40-yard dash (4.56) don't mean too much. The coaches take their own times and most everybody had me in the 4.4s. I think I ran pretty fast. I think I can run faster in a different setting.

I had a pretty good combine. I'm going to do a lot of stuff and improve at my Pro Day. I surprised a lot of people with my times. I weighed in at 218 and they thought I would run in the 4.6s and I ran in the 4.4s. My Pro Day is March 19.

I just want to keep building every week. I know my talent level. I just want the opportunity. Regarless of where I get drafted, you still have to play. Whether you get drafted in the first or the seventh or go undrafted, you have to prove yourself.

I didn't bench, but I'm going to bench at my Pro Day. My max is like 375 pounds. I don't have a problem with the bench press.

I'm in Baltimore now. It was good to see the family. It's all good. I'm going back to school next week to get ready for my Pro Day. It was a blessing to go to the combine.
