U.S. Paralympics announced the team that will compete in the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro from Sept. 7 to Sept. 18. The 267-member team is the largest U.S. delegation in history. Athletes from Maryland on the team are: Gail Gaeng of Frederick (wheelchair basketball), Trevon Jenifer of Huntingtown (wheelchair basketball), Jessica Long of Baltimore (swimming), Hannah and Tatyana McFadden of Clarksville (track and field), Rebecca Meyers of Baltimore (swimming), Markeith Price of Baltimore (track and field), Daniel Romanchuk of Mount Airy (track and field) and Brad Snyder of Baltimore (swimming). Annapolis resident Dee Smith of San Francisco (sailing) and Baltimore residents McKenzie Coan of Clarksville, Ga., (swimming), Elizabeth Smith of Muncie, Ind., (swimming) and Cortney Jordan of Henderson, Nev., (swimming) were also named to the team. Long is the most decorated athlete, with 17 Paralympic medals. Tatyana McFadden, an Atholton graduate, has 11 medals.

Tatyana McFadden has won the Boston Marathon wheelchair race four times. In April, she crossed the line first at Boston and then at the London Marathon within seven days. So why not go for seven golds at the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro this September, in events from the 100 meters on up?
