Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer is not off the hook for his weekend night out.
Shad Khan, the team’s owner, on Tuesday issued a statement regarding his conversation and expectation of Meyer following his night out at an Ohio bar. Khan would not reveal what was said in the conversation, but did allude to Meyer now being on a shortened leash.
“What I will say is his conduct last weekend was inexcusable,” Khan said. “I appreciate Urban’s remorse, which I believe is sincere. Now, he must regain our trust and respect. That will require a personal commitment from Urban to everyone who supports, represents or plays for our team.
“I am confident he will deliver.”
That statement seemed to be a little stronger than Meyer’s retelling of his conversation with his boss on Monday, in which he said Khan was “very supportive” of him.
On Saturday, video surfaced of Meyer dancing with a younger woman obviously not his wife at an Ohio bar on Friday night. That video went viral and by Sunday morning, a photo shared on a woman’s social media of her with Meyer with the caption, “who is this he keeps flirting with me,” also surfaced.
Meyer had been with the Jaguars in Cincinnati for their game against the Bengals on Thursday. Instead of flying back to Florida with the team, he stayed in the area to visit his grand kids, according to Meyer.
Meyer has since acknowledged his conduct was inappropriate and apologized to his family and team.
“I explained everything that happened and owned it. Just stupid. Should not have myself in that kind of position,” Meyer said Monday.
