The Tigers announced Wednesday that they have dismissed first-year pitching coach Chris Bosio for racially insensitive comments directed at a team employee.
“The organization holds all of our personal to the highest standards of personal conduct both on and off the field,” the Tigers said in a statement. “We have zero tolerance for this type of behavior.”
Bosio, who joined manager Ron Gardenhire’s staff this offseason, had spent the previous six seasons as the pitching coach for the Cubs.
The exact nature of what Bosio said is unclear, but it was clearly enough to warrant an immediate dismissal. Tigers bullpen coach Rick Anderson will replace Bosio, with Triple-A pitching coach Jeff Pico to fill Anderson’s role.
