With the Stanley Cup sitting near the mound and the Washington Capitals behind him, captain Alex Ovechkin wound up and delivered the ceremonial first pitch at Saturday’s Nationals game.
Let’s just say as a baseball pitcher he’s a great hockey player.
The first pitch by Ovechkin sailed over Nationals pitcher and Caps fan Max Scherzer, who was out to catch Ovechkin.
So they gave Ovechkin another chance after he signaled that he wanted the ball back. For the MVP of the Stanley Cup playoffs, they didn’t say no.
This one was still high, but it was caught by Scherzer. The crowd roared.
When you win the first Stanley Cup in a team’s 44-year existence, you can do no wrong.
