New lacrosse poll sets up showdown Saturday between No. 1 Albany and No. 2 Maryland

After edging then-No. 4 Virginia, 12-11, on Sunday, the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team vaulted from No. 12 to No. 6 in the latest Maverik media poll released Monday morning. The Orange (3-1) will welcome No. 17 Johns Hopkins (2-2) – which defeated then-No. 20 Princeton – to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse on Saturday.

The top three of No. 1 Albany (3-0), No. 2 Maryland (5-0) and No. 3 Duke (5-1) remained unchanged. That means that Saturday’s game between the Great Danes and Terps at noon at Maryland Stadium in College Park will set up a tilt between the No. 1 and 2 teams in Division I.

Denver (3-1) and Villanova (5-0) moved up one and two spots, respectively to round out the top five. After Syracuse, Loyola Maryland (4-1), Virginia (4-1), North Carolina (6-0) and Yale (3-1) fill out the top 10.
