NCAA Division I tournament quarterfinal preview: Cornell vs. Maryland

Cornell (13-4) at No. 1 seed Maryland (13-3)

When: Sunday, noon

Where: Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Annapolis

Coaches: Peter Millman, Cornell; John Tillman, Maryland

Players to Watch: Jeff Teat, sophomore, attackman, Cornell; Connor Kelly, senior, midfielder, Maryland

Outlook: The Terps are 14-3 against the Big Red, but the teams have split the last two games in the NCAA tournament. While Maryland is enjoying its fifth consecutive appearance in the quarterfinals, this is Cornell’s first trip since 2013. The Big Red rank third in the country in scoring courtesy of a career year from Teat, who leads the nation in assists with 60 and ranks second in points with 97. The Terps will counter with Kelly, the Tewaaraton Award finalist who leads all midfielders in scoring with 77 points. Will Maryland try to shut off Teat as Princeton, Brown and Syracuse did or rely on its traditionally strong man-to-man defense?
