Live racing at Laurel Park expands to four days a week starting with a nine-race program today. Post time is 1:10 p.m. Racing will be conducted Thursdays through Sundays for October and November before going back to a Friday through Sunday schedule in December. The 61-day fall meet concludes Dec. 31. Today's card features a $40,000 maiden special weight for fillies and mares 3 and older in Race 3 and a $35,000 allowance for Maryland -bred/sired 3-year-olds and up in Race 7. Both are scheduled for 11/16 miles over Laurel's turf course. Ninety-eight horses were entered today, an average of 10.9 starters per race. Five races carded for the grass attracted 65 entries, an average of 13 horses per race. There will be a carryover of $636.71 in the $1 Super Hi-5 for Thursday's opener, a 5 ½-furlong maiden claiming event for 3-year-olds and up. ... In addition to a full card of live racing, Laurel Park will offer wagering on the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe from Longchamp Racecourse in Paris on Sunday. Laurel will open its doors at 9:45 a.m. The Arc de Triomphe will go off as Longchamp's fourth race with a post time of 10:05 a.m. Races 5 through 8 from Longchamp will also be available for wagering. Race 8, the Qatar Grand Handicap Des Flyers, has a post time of 12:30 p.m.
