Daniel Centeno, the jockey of the second horse that died Saturday at Pimlico Race Course, received good news Wednesday. After he returned home from the hospital Sunday, doctors determined he would not need surgery on his fractured collarbone.

In the fourth race Saturday, Centeno's horse, Pramedya, suffered a fracture in her left-front leg after falling around the final turn of a 1 1/16-mile turf race. When the 4-year-old filly collapsed, Centeno broke his collarbone. He was immediately taken to Sinai Hospital after the horse was euthanized on the track.

Centeno, 44, spent the night at the hospital and then went home to Tampa, Fla. According to a news release sent Wednesday, he will not require surgery and is expected to heal in 6-8 weeks.

"It's not a bad break at all," Centeno's agent, Kevin Witte, said. "It's good news in the sense that it was a horrific spill and he's lucky he got away just with what happened."

Centeno has 404 starts in 2016 — including 92 wins, ranking him 14th among all jockeys. His career purse earnings exceed $44 million.
