Stan Salter's analysis and betting tips for Friday's race card at Pimlico Race Course:
Race 1, 1:10 p.m. post time
Selections: No. 8 Amain, No. 2 My Team, No. 5 Skip the Punch
Amain overcame trouble and still won last time and he finds a soft spot against this bunch today for trainer Claudio Gonzalez. Jockey Kevin Gomez should get a dream trip stalking from the outside. My Team was second at this level last time and should have a say in the exacta again today. Skip the Punch has early speed and finished third last time at this level.
Race 2, 1:38 p.m.
Selections: No. 6 Town Hero, No. 8 Sensational Notion No. 7 Certain Something
It is graduation day today for everybody's Town Hero. His last two races have been consistent and he just missed last time after making a wide rally. Sensational Notion didn't do anything in his debut but he is by Great Notion, which gives him a chance to like the change to turf today for his second start and he gets Trevor McCarthy to ride. Certain Something is bred to be better, but hasn't shown much yet, which explains the drop today.
Race 3, 2:06 p.m.
Selections: No. 4 Dixie Deputy, No. 5 Arrogant Officer, No. 8 Touchdown
Dixie Deputy is in top form right now for trainer Pat Daniels and he is back in today at the same level he won in late April at Laurel Park. He runs well fresh for this barn, which was evident back on March 20th when the barn won fi rst off the claim with this guy after giving him some time off. Arrogant Officer was second at this level last time and was claimed by Jamie Ness, who wins 29 percent first off the claim. Touchdown has won two in a row but steps up to open claiming today.
Race 4, 2:34 p.m.
Selections: No. 4 Zipping By, No. 6 Atticus Finch, No. 1 Smart Dixie Jones
Zipping By was third at this level last time after breaking from the inside and overcoming some traffic through the stretch. He should improve today with a better post position and it's his second start following a two-month break. Atticus Finch has turned in some decent efforts in the past, but is making his first start since last October. Smart Dixie Jones was fourth behind my top pick in his last start and must overcome tough inside post today.
Race 5, 3:02 p.m.
Selections: No. 12 Because He Can, No. 2 New Yawker, No. 4 Hey Kid
Because He Can won by six last time as the heavy favorite and they give him every chance to do the same thing today with Jevian Toledo aboard. New Yawker is a hard knocker who normally finds a way to get a piece of it. Hey Kid had a wide trip last time and should improve today for sharp connections.
Race 6, 3:30 p.m.
Selections: No. 9 Tizsomethingroyal, No. 1 Bawlmer Hon, No. 4 Include Gold
Tizsomethingroyal finally gets a good post position and she appears much the best in this spot today for solid connections. Bawlmer Hon hasn't missed a check yet, but has a tough post today breaking from the inside. Include Gold is bred to be any kind and makes her debut today for trainer Mike Trombetta.
Race 7, 3:58 p.m.
Selections: No. 7 Justlookatmenow, No. 2 More Stormyweather, No. 1 So Royal
Justlookatmenow has solid early speed and just missed against allowance company last time. She should benefit from an outside post with her early speed. More Stormyweather will be coming with a late run, but needs to fi nd a clear running lane and not get in trouble. So Royal has talent but finds a tough assignment today breaking from the rail.
Race 8, 4:26 p.m.
Selections: No. 10 Wind Damage No. 6 R Lucifer No. 8 Jacoby J
Wind Damage cost $400,000 as a yearling, but hasn't come to the party yet. The drop today might be all he needs to make some noise. R Lucifer has run well at this distance before and takes a drop in class today. Jacoby J runs well early and should hang on for a piece today.
Best bet: Race 5, No. 12 Because He Can
