Stan Salter's analysis and betting tips for Sunday's race card at Pimlico Race Course:
Race 1, 1:10 p.m. post time
Selections: No. 8 Annies Revenge, No. 1 Koppnout, No. 4 Mexicali Sun
Annies Revenge won this maiden condition in her last start but was DQ'd and placed third. If she runs the same race today, she'll win as the heavy favorite with Trevor McCarthy in the saddle for trainer Cal Lynch. Koppnout was claimed by Mary Eppler last time and tries the turf for the first time today. Mexicali Sun takes a drop and gets Hall of Fame jockey Edgar Prado to ride for trainer Ferris Allen.
Race 2, 1:38 p.m.
Selections: No. 1 Classic Brew, No. 4 Two Punch Too, No. 5 Gem Twist
Classic Brew's last try on the dirt was against better and plenty good enough to win this condition today with top rider Feargal Lynch up for trainer Jamie Ness. Two Punch Too had a nice win two back and gets back to a level today where he is competitive. Gem Twist won for $5,000 never won two in his last start and takes a step up today for strong connections.
Race 3, 2:06 p.m.
Selections: No. 4 Magician's Bullet, No. 7 Surfspun, No. 8 Mr. Stream
Magician's Bullet just missed at this level last time and is the main threat in here with Alex Cintron riding for trainer Mike Trombetta. Surfspun had a tough inside post last time and overcame that to finish third. Mr. Stream has some solid early speed and a favorable outside post for this turf sprint.
Race 4, 2:34 p.m.
Selections: No. 1 If I Was a Boy, No. 6 Everything Magic, No. 5 Crystal Pier
If I Was a Boy is in top form right now for trainer Bill Komlo and if she can carve out a trip breaking from the rail, then I think she'll keep that sharp form and be tough to beat with McCarthy aboard. Everything Magic won by nine last time against maiden $40,000 company at Monmouth and steps up to allowance company today. Crystal Pier was a decent third last time behind my top pick in here.
Race 5, 3:02 p.m.
Selections: No. 8 Joseph, No. 2 No Knock Raid, No. 4 Terp Love
Joseph's last two races have been good enough to win this race today and he gets a much better outside post today with Victor Carrasco riding for trainer Rodney Jenkins. No Knock Raid has turned in a couple of decent efforts this year and just needs a better trip today to get a piece of it. Terp Love is well bred for the turf and runs as a first-time gelding today for strong connections.
Race 6, 3:30 p.m.
Selections: No. 6 Catch, No. 11 Security Check, No. 12 Startdwithawhisper
Catch broke from the rail last time and ran respectable in a race that produced a next-out winner. I think she's capable of better and she doesn't have to ship today, as trainer Ann Merryman claimed her last time and has a workout posted for her here at Pimlico, where Merryman is stabled. Security Check has run some good races in the past, but she's still a maiden at 5 years old and is coming off a layoff today. Startdwithawhisper is a first-time starter who has been training here at Pimlico for trainer Mary Eppler, who is 33 percent with first-timers.
Race 7, 3:58 p.m.
Selections: No. 7 Mr Palmer, No. 4 He's Achance, No. 1A Golden Glint
Very tough upper-level allowance feature of the day here to kick off the late Daily Double. Mr Palmer is one tough customer who is in top form right now for strong connections. He's Achance is a freak when he gets loose on the lead and that's what they'll try with him again today over a surface that he has won on twice already. Golden Glint's win two back was very sharp and if we see that kind of effort today, he can win this feature.
Race 8, 4:26 p.m.
Selections: No. 7 Pearl's Love, No. 1 Flame of My Heart, No. 6 Delightfullstorm
Pearl's Love was steadied early in her last start at this level and fi nished third, but was put up to second place via a DQ. She'll be tough to beat today with Horacio Karamanos riding for trainer Ferris Allen III. Flame of My Heart had a wide trip last time but finished an encouraging third. She must overcome a tough break from the rail today as the likely favorite. Delightfullstorm was second last time at this level and will be coming with a late rally with Taylor Hole in the saddle.
Best bet: Race 2, No. 1 Classic Brew
Price play: Race 6, No. 6 Catch
