Mount Saint Joseph sophomore Jalen Smith, a five-star forward prospect, received a scholarship offer Saturday from Maryland.

“Honored to say the University of Maryland has offered me today. #NoPlaceLikeHome. Fear the Turtle. Go Terps!” he wrote on Twitter.

ESPN rated the 6-foot-8 Smith the No. 17 overall recruit in the Class of 2018. Smith also has offers from Providence, Marquette and Miami but is considered a Maryland lean.

"He’s got a very strong family support; the mom and dad are very involved in his life and education," Amateur Athletic Union coach David Thurston said in June. "They’re very grounded and they’re all Maryland fans. They watch all the games, so I think for the family, for him to be part of the Maryland program would be a dream come true."
