Dunks for Diabetes basketball fundraiser set for Gilman on Saturday

The fifth annual Dunks for Diabetes fundraiser will be held on Feb. 27.

The fifth annual Dunks for Diabetes 3 v 3 basketball tournament will take place at Gilman on Saturday, Feb. 27  from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the school's old gym.

Jordan Yaffe, an junior at Gilman, founded the event five years ago to honor his neighbor, Dr. Fred Brancati, who was an influential doctor devoted to diabetes research at Johns Hopkins before he passed away.

The mission of the event, which is organized by high school students and hosted by Yaffe, is to bring the community together in order to promote awareness of Diabetes, demonstrate the importance of exercise through the game of basketball and raise as much money as possible for the American Diabetes Association.
