All-Metro Wrestler of the Year

McDonogh senior Myles Martin, a repeat choice as All-Metro Wrestler of the Year, is not only one of the best wrestlers in the state, he's also one of the best in the country.

Martin dominated Maryland competition en route to his third straight Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association, Maryland Independent Schools and National Preps tournament titles. He finished the season 46-1 and is a combined 92-2 in his final two varsity seasons, and he ends his career as the all-time wins leader at McDonogh with 171.

"Myles is driven at wrestling. He loves to wrestle," Eagles coach Pete Welch said. "His athleticism is second to none, and he has really taken huge jumps the last two years with his technique."

Martin, ranked No. 2 at 182 pounds and the sixth-best pound-for-pound wrestler in the country according to flowrestling.com, will wrestle for NCAA champion Ohio State next year.

"I can't wait. I'm excited. Can't wait to be a part of that, being in that wrestling room and competing with all those guys who have the same goals I do, so it's only going to make me better," Martin said. "I want to be a four-time national champ, four-time Big Ten champ."
