High winds close schools, postpone athletic events

The high winds throughout Maryland closed a number of school systems and thus postponed the majority of Friday’s athletic events, including the start of the MPSSAA state wrestling championships and region title games in boys basketball.

The revised schedule for the wrestling tournament, taking place at The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, has the bulk of it taking place on Saturday and then concluding Monday afternoon with bouts for first through fourth place.

While most of the area boys basketball teams playing for region titles had their games pushed back to Saturday, one game remained on the schedule for Friday.

In the 1A East, Snow Hill visits Patterson Mill, also at 6 p.m.
