McDonogh, Loyola swimmers named high school All-Americans

More than a dozen local high school swimmers were named All-Americans this week by the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association.

Eleven McDonogh swimmers were honored, five boys and six girls, while four Loyola Blakefield swimmers were also named All-Americans.

McDonogh’s boys: Colin Bitz (100 backstroke), Derek Nguyen (100 breaststroke), Ben Merz, Ben Selnick Alexander Zuga and Nguyen for the 200 freestyle relay. McDonogh’s girls: Dani Ghine (200 freestyle, 100 freestyle), Meghan Lee (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke), Alyana Nielson, Marietta Gately, Ryan Gillin and Lee for the 200 medley relay and Nielson, Gately, Ghine and Erin Vance for the 200 freestyle relay.

Loyola’s All-Americans: Benjamin Shropshire (100 butterfly) and William Pelton, Graham Lindner, Matthew Clark and Shropshire for the 200 freestyle relay.
