Softball: Player of the Year

Hyson is regarded as one of the most dominant pitchers ever in Maryland high school softball.

"She showed that she is a team player and has the desire to compete and play at the highest level," Chesapeake coach Don Ellenberger said.

Hyson went 22-1 this season and was one pitch away from a perfect game in the Class 4A state semifinal. She led the team in batting average, runs scored and hits, and she tied for the lead in doubles. She had seven shutouts in a row and 13 overall. Hyson finished with an ERA of 0.82 and 276strikeouts.

She won several games against top competition in the state and threw four no-hitters and one combined no-hitter. She defeated the following ranked teams: Glen Burnie (three times), North County (twice), Severna Park (twice), Northeast (twice), Broadneck, Glenelg and Howard (for the District V championship).

Hyson will play softball for Georgetown.
