Calvert Hall took a huge step toward claiming the top seed in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference playoffs with an 11-10 double overtime win over No. 2 Boys' Latin on Tuesday in a battle of league unbeatens. It puts the Cardinals at 7-0 in league play with two games remaining and a win against St. Paul's (5-2 in league play) would clinch first place. The Crusaders are tied with No. 3 McDonogh (13-3, 5-2) for third place with Boys' Latin (12-4) currently holding down second place and a potential bye in the opening round of the playoffs. In edging Boys' Latin, the Cardinals got stellar play in goal when it counted most from Darragh; great faceoff work from Autry; and Kelly, Curry and Bugliosi providing consistent and timely offensive production on a balanced attack. The Crusaders bring many of the same attributes with Rode the defensive glue; Tscherne strong on faceoffs; and a dynamic one-two punch in Posner and Pearl. The middle of the field battles will be vital and it comes down to which attack is more efficient. Tuesday marks the end of the regular season with Calvert Hall traveling to Loyola Blakefield and St. Paul's hosting Boys' Latin, with both games at 4:15 p.m.
