KEYS TO VICTORY
The Cardinals, from Alexandria, Va., are the latest nationally ranked team to take aim at a McDonogh win streak that has reached 122 games. Coach Chris Robinson's Eagles, six-time defending Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference champions, are ranked No. 1 in every national poll. The Cardinals, champs last season in the Virginia independent schools league and Washington Catholic Athletic Conference, are No. 2 or No. 3 in those polls. Both teams rely on balanced offenses and a lot of depth, but Bishop Ireton coach Rick Sofield said he doesn't have quite the depth that McDonogh has even though he has 12 girls committed to Division I programs. The Eagles have about 20 Division I commitments. One of the keys to McDonogh's win streak — which began in April 2009 and is a national record for the sport — has been their ability to dominate the draw and limit opponents' time of possession. The two teams, who have never met, have one common opponent – Roland Park – which the Cardinals defeated 13-11 in overtime and the Eagles defeated 18-14 after leading by 11 goals early in the second half.
