Former Gilman football standout Kai Locksley is going back to Texas — but not Austin.
The National Junior College Athletic Association’s reigning Offensive Player of the Year announced last week that he’s signed with Texas-El Paso, where he has two years of eligibility remaining. A four-star recruit in the Class of 2015, Locksley spent two trying years with the Longhorns before leaving the program.
Locksley landed at Arizona Western, committed to Marshall, then decommitted and headed instead to Iowa Western. After winning the starting job under center, he passed for 2,238 yards and 20 touchdowns and rushed for 705 yards and 20 touchdowns, drawing Division I interest as a three-star prospect.
"My outlook now is just making sure it’s the correct fit all the way around, because this is the last opportunity I get to pick where I want to go," Locksley, the son of former Maryland interim head coach and current Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley, told the Des Moines Register. "I want to take full advantage of that and make sure it’s a school that has people that are in place to put me in the best position to achieve my dream, which is the NFL.”
