Girls indoor track performers to watch

Danika Ani

Francis Scott Key, shot put, senior

Ani was runner-up in the 2A indoor state shot put by half an inch, but did win the event at both the Carroll County and 2A West championship meets. She's a returning All-Metro first-team selection who finished third (39 feet, 8.50 inches) in the event during the outdoor season.

Jen Bleakney

Atholton, distance, senior

Bleakney finished first in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs at the Howard County championships before missing regionals. However, she collected outdoor titles in both events on the way to being named Howard County Times girls outdoor track Athlete of the Year.

Jamila Brown

Wilde Lake, sprints, junior

Brown won Howard County indoor championships in the 55- and 300-meter dashes. She also won a 3A East title in the 55, before running a personal-record 7.33 seconds in the event at states. In the 300, she also ran a personal-red 41.6 seconds for a fourth-place state meet finish.

Olivia Gruver

Franklin, vault, senior

The returning indoor 3A state champion pole-vaulter set a record of 13 feet for all four classifications. She won the event at the Baltimore County indoor championships as well. She also vaulted 12 feet during the outdoor season and won a state title.

Lakin Hatcher

McDonogh, sprinter, senior

She helped McDonogh repeat as Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland champions during the indoor season with titles in the 55- and 300-meter dashes. She also collected a win in the 200 during the outdoor championship.

Amanda Murphy

Franklin, shot put, junior

Murphy took first in shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 7 inches at the Baltimore County championships, as well as at the 3A Central region meet, before taking third with a persona-lrecord (36-21/2) at states. During the outdoor season, she won a county and region title in the event before finishing second at states.

Sarah Rinehart

Liberty, distance, senior

Aside from winning a 2A state title in the 1,600-meter run, she also set a class record (5:04.53). Rinehart won county and 2A West titles in the same event. During this cross country season, she collected victories at the Carroll County and 2A West championships, and finished second at states.

Taylor Selber

Long Reach, hurdles, senior

After winning county and region championships in the 55-meter hurdles during indoor last season, she finished second in the same event with a personal best 8.39 at states. During the outdoor season, she won county and region titles in the 100 and 300 hurdles.

Reilly Wagner

South River, high jump and hurdles, senior

Wagner won state championships in both indoor and outdoor high jump. She also collected an indoor Anne Arundel County championship in the 800-meter hurdles (2:26.98), and an outdoor 4A East regional title in the 300 hurdles.
