Danika Ani

Francis Scott Key, senior


* Finished third in state Class 2A shot put this spring

* Shot put champion in Carroll County;, took second in Class 2A West Region

* Was nearly perfect throughout the season in shot put and scored well in discus; ran on relays

Brianna Best

Kenwood, junior

* Versatile performer who can score in sprints as well as field events

* Won long jump in Baltimore County and Class 4A North Region meets, and took sixth at the state meet

* Her jump of 17 feet, 3.75 inches at the state meet was the best of any local jumper

Jamila Brown

Wilde Lake, sophomore

* Had a breakout season this spring, growing into one of the area's top sprinters

* Won 100-meter dash in Howard County and Class 3A East Region before taking second at states; did the same in 200

* Helped in 400 and long jump this season; should be one of area's top sprinters next year

Sharon Dorsey


Western Tech, senior

* Remained one of the area's most versatile runners and point-scoring machines after winning two state titles indoors

* Won 200- and 400-meter dashes in Class 2A at state meet; ran on two first-place relay teams to help the Wolverines take third overall

* Going to George Mason this fall

Ellie Gonzalez

Catholic, senior

* Headed for Dartmouth in the fall after becoming one of the state's best distance runners in recent years

* Easily won 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs at the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland title meet, repeating her performances from the winter and last spring

* Took second in a tough mile race at Penn Relays

Isabel Griffith

Dulaney, senior

* Won Baltimore County and Class 4A North Region titles in 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs

* Finished third in both events at the state meet, battling through tough races

* Will attend Penn this fall

Olivia Gruver

Franklin, junior

* Won Class 3A state title in pole vault for second straight season

* Took first at the Penn Relays with a vault of 12-3.5, believed to be the area's best this spring

* Very successful in high jump and long jump; took fifth in state in the latter

Jessica Harris

Mount de Sales, senior

* Turned in another strong season as the area's top middle-distance runner

* Won 800-meter dash at the IAAM title meet after doing so during the winter championships

* Was one of the best in 800 all year

Rebeka Holt,

Western Tech, senior

* Gave the Wolverines points throughout the season in several areas

* Won 800-meter dash in Baltimore County, Class 2A North Region and state meets; also took second in 400 in each meet

* Ran on 800- and 3,200-meter relays that won state titles as Western Tech finished third overall

Medinah Spencer

Milford Mill, senior

* Outstanding athlete who helped the Millers in hurdles and relays

* Won Class 3A 100-meter hurdles at state meet and took second in 300 hurdles

* Took both at Baltimore County and 3A North Region meets; ran on two winning relays at state meets

Briana Taborn

Atholton, senior

* Won shot put and discus in Class 3A state meet

* Pulled off same feat in 3A East Region meet the week before

* Took first in Howard County title meet in discus and second in shot put

Reilly Wagner

South River, junior

* Multitalented athlete helped the Seahawks win Anne Arundel and Class 4A North Region meets

* Won high jump in the county, region and state meets, going 5 feet, 6 inches in state meet

* Ran hurdles (fourth in state in 300 meters) and helped South River with relays

Maja Wichhart

Catonsville, junior

* Competed in triple jump, 100-meter hurdles, relays and other events

* Took third in triple jump and fourth in 100 hurdles in Class 4A state title meet

* Won triple jump in Baltimore County meet and took third in 100 hurdles
