Baltimore-area girls soccer: Breaking down the Top 15

Two quality county championship games factored into limited movement in last week’s poll.

In Anne Arundel, Severna Park avenged its regular-season loss against South River with a win in penalty kicks after the teams battled to a scoreless draw through 100 minutes of play. With the win, the Falcons went from No. 9 to No. 5 with South River dropping from No. 5 to No. 8.

In Baltimore County, No. 4 Sparrows Point stayed undefeated at 12-0 with a 1-0 overtime win against Perry Hall, which fell one spot to No. 9 with the loss. The Pointers have won four of the past five Baltimore County championships with three wins coming against the Gators.

This week takes us deeper into the region playoffs in the public schools, while the IAAM championships will be decided on Saturday. The A Conference is wide open with No. 1 McDonogh looking to repeat as champions but expected to get potential pushes from No. 2 Spalding, No. 7 Notre Dame Prep and No. 12 Mercy.
