Baltimore-area girls soccer: Breaking down the Top 15

Since the preseason, the top two spots in The Baltimore Sun’s Top 15 girls soccer poll haven’t changed — defending Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference champion McDonogh at the top with conference rival Archbishop Spalding at No. 2.

That could change Wednesday when the Eagles host the Cavaliers with first place on the line in the conference. Both teams will come into the game with 10-0-1 records, with each tying strong out-of-area opponents.

Nos. 3 through 8 stayed the same while Hereford (10-2) slipped from No. 9 to No. 11 after an upset loss to Towson. Bel Air (8-3-1) climbed back in the poll at No. 15 with St. Paul’s dropping to the “others considered” after a lopsided loss against McDonogh.

Here’s a look at some pivotal games this week:

» No. 2 Spalding at No. 1 McDonogh, Wednesday, 4 p.m.

» No. 3 River Hill at No. 10 Reservoir, Thursday, 5:30 p.m.

» No. 13 Mercy at No. 2 Spalding, Friday, 4 p.m.
