Baltimore Sun reporter Katherine Dunn picks the girls lacrosse players who are worth keeping an eye on this season.
Lizzie Colson
Manchester Valley, midfielder, junior
The leading point scorer in Carroll County last spring led her team to its first state championship and scored her 100th career point. An All-Metro second-team selection committed to Maryland, Colson had 61 goals and 18 assists.
Emily Cooper
Archbishop Spalding, attacker, senior
Cooper drew plenty of attention last season with seven goals in an early-season 12-9 win over Bryn Mawr. After that, opponents tried to face guard her, but she still managed to contribute 83 goals and 12 assists. An All-Metro first-team pick, Cooper has signed with Loyola Maryland.
Elizabeth George
McDonogh, midfielder, senior
Able to dominate the midfield in many ways, the All-Metro second-team player provided the little things the Eagles needed, as well as 45 goals and 21 assists. George, The Baltimore Sun's All-Metro Field Hockey Player of the Year last fall, will play lacrosse for Princeton.
Jen Giles
Mount Hebron, midfielder, senior
An all-around contributor on both ends of the field, Giles always seems to be around the ball. The Vikings' leading scorer for two seasons finished with 55 goals and 25 assists last spring. An All-Metro second-team selection, she is headed to Maryland.
Brindi Griffin
McDonogh, attacker, junior
An All-Metro second-team pick last season, Griffin excels running the offense and is a strong finisher. She had 57 goals and 12 assists last season. A member of the U.S. Under-19 team, she is committed to Maryland.
Miranda Ibello
Maryvale, midfielder, senior
Ibello stood out the most on the attacking end, where she regularly beat face guards to score 63 goals and had 27 assists. An All-Metro first-team player last season, she will play for the U.S. Under-19 team before moving on to Johns Hopkins.
Olivia Jenner
McDonogh, midfielder, senior
The Eagles generate a lot more offense than their opponents because Jenner wins so many draws (88 last season). An All-Metro first-team player who has signed with Duke, she also played an integral role in the attack with 30 goals and 13 assists.
Hayley Norris
Severn, defender, senior
A four-year starter and All-Metro first-team player, Norris quarterbacked a unit that allowed just 8.4 goals per game last year. She led the Admirals with 19 caused turnovers while directing the team slides. Headed to High Point, she also can be a factor in the midfield.
Caroline Steele
Severn, midfielder, senior
The Maryland-bound middie enjoyed a breakout junior season with 82 goals and 10 assists. Quick and slippery in the arc, she'll draw more defensive attention this time but can counter with her ability to feed when necessary. Steele was an All-Metro first-team selection last spring.
Francesca Whitehurst
Roland Park, midfielder, senior
An All-Metro first-team pick last season, Whitehurst provides a little of everything the Reds need all over the field and still is nearly unstoppable going to the goal. She had 75 goals and 15 assists, was selected for the U.S. Under-19 team and has signed with Georgetown.
