Girls indoor track performers to watch

Alex Butz

Hereford, senior

A versatile athlete who gives the Bulls points in a number of ways. Butz took third in the Class 2A state meet in the high jump and second in the pole vault last winter as Hereford won the title.

Anna Coffin

Annapolis, sophomore

The younger of the Coffin sisters is developing into a strong distance runner in her own right. She took fourth in the state in the Class 4A title meet — three spots behind her sister — and should keep improving this winter.

Maria Coffin

Annapolis, senior

She'll be one of the state's top distance runners again in her final indoor season. Coffin is coming off an outstanding fall cross country season where she won the Class 4A state crown.

Emily Craig

Maryvale, senior

Craig led Maryvale to a second straight cross country title this fall. She'll try and help lead the Lions to a second consecutive indoor track crown — and a fifth straight running title overall.

Haley Cummins

C. Milton Wright, freshman

She will try to follow up an outstanding cross country season with more success in indoor track. Cummins won the Class 3A state title in the fall and already is one of the area's top distance runners.

Cameron Hinton

Franklin, junior

She transferred to Franklin from IAAM A Conference champion Maryvale. The combination of Hinton and Nyjari McNeil is going to give the Indians plenty of points throughout the winter.

Nyjari McNeil

Franklin, junior

McNeil won the Class 3A state title in the 500 and 800 last year. She's one of the area's most versatile track and field athletes.

Natalie Poulton

Century, junior

She came on strong in the second half of the cross country season and ran well. Poulton finished second in the Carroll County meet, third in the region and fifth in the Class 2A state meet.

Bayli Smith

Howard, junior

Smith took eighth in the state in the tough Class 4A meet. She'll be one of the top returnees in the state in that event.

Kelly Wesolowski

Hereford, senior

She is going to try and help the Bulls repeat as Class 2A state champions this winter. A strong distance runner who took second in the state in cross country, Wesolowski took second in the state this fall as Hereford won that title.
