Girls basketball players to watch

Aberdeen forward-guard Stephanie Jones 20.1 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.8 steals per game last season.

Roland Park, forward, senior

An All-Metro second-team selection last season, Clay led the Reds in scoring (12 points per game) and rebounding (seven). A strong face-up player with a good shot, the 6-foot-1 Clay will carry much of the load inside this season. She has signed with Saint Joseph's (Pa.).

Danielle Edwards

McDonogh, forward-guard, senior

Last season's All-Metro Player of the Year, Edwards, 5-7, is the area's best point guard. Her leadership, ball handling and scoring led the Eagles to their second Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference title in three years. Edwards, who averaged 11 points, 5.5 steals and 4.1 assists per game, has signed with Clemson.

Roland Park, forward, senior

The versatile, 5-10 All-Metro first-team selection excelled on defense. She led the Reds to the A Conference final for the first time in 10 years, averaging 11 points, 4.5 rebounds and two steals per game. Edwards has signed with High Point.

Qalea Ismail

Patterson Mill, guard, senior

The Princeton-bound Ismail, 6-1, led the Huskies to their first state championship last season with her defense and 14 points in the Class2A final, a 33-30 win over three-time defending champion Calvert. An All-Metro first-team pick last season, she averaged 20.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.4 steals per game.

Stephanie Jones

Aberdeen, forward-guard, junior

Already a two-time All-Metro first-team selection, Jones presents a huge matchup problem with her versatile offensive repertoire. At 6-2, she can post up taller players, handle the ball in transition and hit 3-pointers. She averaged 20.1 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.8 steals per game. Jones has committed to Maryland.

Dajah Logan

McDonogh, guard, senior

The Eagles' leading scorer averaged 12.3 points per game and boosted that to 16.5 points In the AConference tournament. She finished the season as the Most Valuable Player at the Bishop Walsh Girls Invitational Tournament. A returning All-Metro first-team pick, the 6-1 Logan has signed with College of Charleston.

Maddie McDaniel

Severn, forward, junior

McDaniel, a 6-foot All-Metro second-team selection, is recovering from mononucleosis but should return this month, bringing back a strong post presence. She averaged 18.1 points and 10.9 rebounds last season, and contributed 25 points and 17 rebounds in the B Conference title victory.

Taylor Murray

Annapolis Area Christian, guard, senior

A two-time All-Metro first-team player, Murray set the school record for career points with 1,433. Last season, she nearly averaged a triple double — 25.2 points, 9.6 rebounds and 9.8 steals — and had 37, 10 and 10 in the 52-49 B Conference semifinal loss. Murray has signed with Kentucky.

Dionna White

Milford Mill, forward-guard, senior

A three-time All-Metro first-team selection, the 5-8 White can do everything in the backcourt and out-rebound much taller players. She led the Millers to the Class 3A state title, averaging 21 points, 6.5 assists and 8.7 rebounds. Headed for Georgetown, she is nearing the school record with 1,436 career points.

Aneah Young

Poly, forward-guard, senior

A matchup problem for most opponents, the 6-foot Young has the size to pound the boards and the quickness and agility to play outside. An All-Metro second-team selection last season, she was second on the team with 10.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. She has signed with James Madison.
