Girls Athlete of the Week (Oct. 14): Rachel Lazris, Wilde Lake

A junior midfielder and captain, Lazris accounted for four goals and one assist in leading the Wildecats (6-3) to two Howard County wins last week. In a 4-3 win over Mount Hebron on Oct. 7, Lazris scored three times. After tying the game with 25 minutes left, she produced the game-winner with a penalty kick in the 68th minute. In last Friday's 4-0 win over Oakland Mills, she finished with one goal and one assist. Lazris, a three-year starter who rarely leaves the field, has a team-high eight goals to go with three assists and has scored in each of the Wildecats' six wins. Lazris also averaged a team-high 16.6 points per game for the Wilde Lake basketball team as a sophomore and runs track in the spring.
