Football state semifinals set for next weekend

Just 16 teams remain standing as the high school football playoffs move to the state semifinals next weekend. Among them are seven Baltimore-area teams.

Howard, Glenelg, Dunbar and Havre de Grace were all in the semifinals last year. Milford Mill is back for the first time in five years. Long Reach and Harford Tech made it for the first time in program history.

No. 9 Milford Mill defeated Edgewood 33-14 to win the Class 3A North regional football championship and earn a berth in the state semifinals for the first time in five years.

Two defending state champions remain in the field — Wise in Class 4A and Fort Hill in 1A. Damascus, which won in Class 3A the past two years, is in the 2A semifinals after edging defending 2A champion Walkersville, 7-3, in the West regional final.

4 Howard at 1 Wise, Friday, 7 p.m.

3 Quince Orchard at 2 North Point, Friday, 7 p.m

4 Long Reach at 1 Milford Mill, Saturday, 1 p.m

3 Oxon Hill at 2 Linganore, Friday, 7 p.m.

Howard football beat Paint Branch, 33-20, in the 4A North final on Nov. 17.

Class 2A

4 Glenelg at 1 Damascus, Friday, 7 p.m.

3 Gwynn Park at 2 Harford Tech, Saturday, 7 p.m.

Class 1A

4 Lackey at 1 Fort Hill, Friday, 7 p.m.

3 Havre de Grace at 2 Dunbar, Saturday, 1 p.m.
